Discovered this photo on Facebook last night and was intrigued as to the story behind it. I figured these guys were English anti-fascist skinheads of some kind, but it turns out they were French. The Red Warriors were a French communist skinhead street gang that organized in the 80’s. Originally, they were security for punk shows to keep nazis out. They eventually grew into a gang to forcefully counter the growing far-right in France (and the accompanying rise in white nationalism and violence against immigrants/people of color) by providing safe spaces for immigrants and combating nazis in the streets. I also discovered this documentary about them on YouTube which looks really good. This is the sort of thing that may become necessary in Greece (may even already be necessary) if Golden Dawn continues to grow in strength (and the police remain allied with them) and violence against immigrants and people of color persists. As Woody Guthrie said, all you fascists bound to lose.
